Assemble the real shooting setup
Test with the mounting arrangement, cable and power method you will actually use. Check that a cable does not strain the connector and that an accessory does not obstruct the mounting hardware. Follow the camera manufacturer’s environmental guidance when a port cover is open or an accessory is attached.
Check the complete take
Start the camera, wait for the microphone connection indication and make a test at the loudest expected speaking level. Listen for clipping, rubbing and dropouts. Moving meters show a signal, but they cannot tell you whether the microphone is positioned usefully.
Use the same start method you plan to use during the shoot. Quick-start modes and transmitter buttons can behave differently from starting in the camera interface. Confirm both the start and the stop action.
Replay exported files
Replay the camera file and inspect any internal backup. For two speakers, verify channel routing using separate test phrases. If you need camera ambience as an additional track, confirm that the intended mode actually wrote it.
Keep a simple fallback: a known working cable or camera audio setting, spare power where appropriate, and enough time to repeat the test. The setup is useful when it produces the files you need, not merely when devices appear paired.
